Who's Akela? pronounced [A-KAY-la] or [uh-KEE-luh]. Remember, to the Cub Scout all adults are "Akela" - a leader. Akela the wolf, whose origns are with the Jungle Book, was chosen by scouting founder Lord Robert Baden Powell as the totem of the Wolf Cub program, since it inception in England in 1916, and later in the United States in 1930 in what would become the Cub Scouting program. Akela is a symbol of wisdom, authority, and leadership. For more on the history of Cub Scouting click here.
No Cub Scout program can function without parental support. We are blessed whether the contribution be great or small. We welcome and encourage all parents, and even grandparents and relatives, to become involved and share talents to support the scouting growth of the boys, and as Baden-Powell's said in his last written message, "Try and leave this world a little better than you found it."
Become a Leader. Please talk to the Cubmaster if you would like to become a leader or volunteer, share any interests or skills, or help in planning for events. Leaders receive training opportunities. If not a leader, then consider being on the Pack Committee to support the operation of the pack. Many hands make light work and the program is more worthwhile when adults get involved.
